Coating Spotlight: SCS Epoxy Conformal Coatings
Epoxy resin (ER) conformal coatings provide robust protection against chemical solvents and moisture exposure for applications in the electronics, defense and aerospace industries. Commonly used epoxy conformal coatings include MG Chemicals 4225, HumiSeal® 2A53 and Henkel Loctite® EC 210.
As a family, epoxies generally offer stronger abrasion resistance properties than most coatings; they also provide robust moisture and chemical properties. Similar to other liquid coatings, epoxy coatings are applied via manual or automated spray, brush or dip methods.
Due to their strong solvent-resistance properties, epoxy coatings can be used to mitigate reverse engineering threats. That said, these properties along with the coating’s strong abrasion resistance properties make epoxies more difficult to rework. If frequent rework of components is a concern, SCS can help customers decide if a different conformal coatings might be a better fit.
