New SCS Parylene HTSM Conformal Coating Ideal For High-Temperature Applications

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - (May 14, 2004) -Specialty Coating Systems (SCS), has introduced Parylene HTSM conformal coating for the medical industry. The next-generation coating is ideal for providing protection to medical devices exposed to high-temperature environments in excess of 500°C (long-term stability to 350°C), such as electrosurgical cauterizing and cutting tools, probes, and thermal sterilization processes.

As with previous generation SCS Parylene C and N coatings, Parylene HT is completely biocompatible and stable in the presence of biofluids. It has been tested for cytotoxicity, sensitization, intracutaneous reactivity, acute system toxicity, hemocompatibility and implantation. Specialty Coating Systems maintains Device and Drug Master Files for Parylene HT, Parylene N and Parylene C with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The protective coating meets many of the performance specifications of medical device manufacturers. Parylene HT is an excellent chemical, moisture and dielectric barrier, and offers exceptional dry film lubricity and UV stability.

"Applications in the industry have increasingly required a thermally stable coating capable of withstanding the higher temperatures associated with certain surgical procedures," said Lonny Wolgemuth, Specialty Coating Systems Medical Market Manager. "Parylene HT provides that stability."

"Our customers benefit from proven SCS Parylene coating quality and consistency, as well as extensive application engineering resources, process integrity and service resources at multiple sites," said Wolgemuth.

Parylene HT is applied via a room temperature vapor-phase deposition process, resulting in a pinhole-free and perfectly conformal protective coating. It is inert, does not out-gas, is solvent and catalyst free, and in ultra-thin coatings, results in little dimensional or mass change to the coated device.

Headquartered in Indianapolis, Ind., Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) is the worldwide leader in Parylene conformal coating services, systems and materials. SCS has nearly 35 years of application experience and expertise in the medical device, electronics, automotive, aerospace, rubber, MEMS and ferrite core industries. With 11 coating facilities throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, SCS leverages its worldwide Parylene coating resources in order to exceed customers' expectations. SCS also offers state-of-the-art liquid coating systems including spray coating, spin coating and dip coating systems. Additionally, SCS' line of ionic contamination test systems leads the industry in cleanliness testing equipment. For more information about SCS, call 317-244-1200, or visit www.scscoatings.com.
