Specialty Coating Systems, Inc. (SCS) is pleased to announce that it has been acquired by Berwind Corporation
June 11, 2008 (Indianapolis, IN) – Specialty Coating Systems, Inc. (SCS)
is pleased to announce that it has been acquired by Berwind Corporation (Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania). Berwind is a fifth-generation, family-owned private investment
management company, with roots dating back to 1886. The company’s
diversified portfolio is comprised of highly successful manufacturing and service
companies which are all leaders in their respective market niche.
Berwind purchased SCS from Bunker Hill Capital, L.P. (BHC), which had acquired
the company in December 2005 from Cookson Electronics with the intent of supporting
greater growth initiatives. Since then, SCS has demonstrated excellent,
sustained growth, making it an excellent candidate for acquisition after only
two and a half years.
SCS is an excellent, long-term strategic fit for Berwind’s portfolio
as its operating companies serve a number of industries including pharmaceutical,
specialty chemical, automotive, commercial vehicle, and natural resources. Berwind’s
portfolio of companies employs over 3,500 employees around the world and represents
